A Harmony Between Tradition and Modernity: The New Homes of Campill in the Heart of the Dolomites

In the idyllic village of Campill, a hamlet of the municipality of San Martino in Badia, nestled in the heart of the South Tyrolean Dolomites, a new residential project is taking shape—one that harmoniously blends tradition and modernity. Positioned on a sloping terrain, the private homes offer breathtaking views of the majestic surrounding peaks, celebrating the deep and lasting bond between humans and nature.

From an urban planning perspective, the project draws inspiration from the traditional Paarhof, a typical mountain farmstead layout characteristic of the Alpine region. This model features residential and agricultural buildings arranged in close proximity, with gabled roofs facing downhill. Due to the sloped position, the houses appear as two-story buildings only when viewed from the valley side, while the cellars and shared garages are ingeniously integrated underground.

The upper floors, detached and topped with south-facing gabled roofs, reflect the authentic character of the local farmsteads. The natural stone-clad ground floor and the two wooden upper levels mirror the region’s traditional architecture, while the clean, angular design offers a modern reinterpretation of the Alpine style.
