Edge ElbSide is a new office building in Hamburg with characteristic winter gardens that not only offer alternative workspaces but also play a key role in the building’s energy concept. As a core and shell structure, Edge ElbSide provides the flexibility to customize and personalize the interior spaces.

Edge ElbSide, a state-of-the-art office building situated in Hamburg's emerging Elbbrücken district within Hafencity, redefines the concept of contemporary work environments. Depart-ing from the original masterplan's concept of an office building with an enclosed interior courtyard, our design strategy reimagined this feature by dispersing and integrating courtyard elements throughout the structure as innovative winter gardens. These spaces serve as transi-tional zones between indoors and outdoors, creating unique microclimates that enrich the building's spatial experience.
The design of Edge ElbSide revolves around these distinctive winter gardens, which not only offer serene settings for individual work and meetings but also contribute to the building's energy efficiency. Through the incorporation of natural elements and the promotion of cross-ventilation, these winter gardens play a vital role in reducing the overall energy consumption of the building, establishing it as a sustainable and eco-friendly workplace.
In contrast to traditional office layouts characterized by enclosed cubicles and isolated corri-dors, Edge ElbSide embraces open and flexible spaces that foster communication and collab-oration among its occupants. The building's central main line offers orientation and vertical circulation, working in tandem with the winter gardens to organize the work areas and en-hance the overall functionality of the space.
As a core and shell structure, Edge ElbSide provides the flexibility for its principal client to customize and personalize the interior spaces. The design’s primary focus lies on the outward-facing winter gardens that elevate the building's climate performance and contributing to the well-being of its occupants by balancing productivity with relaxation. With a thoughful ap-proach to energy efficiency and sustainability, Edge ElbSide aspires to contribute to the ongo-ing evolution of contemporary office buildings, embracing innovation and creativity in every aspect of its design.
