COREDO Nihonbashi

Tokyo, Japan

New Lighting for urban commercial facilities.

During Edo Period, people started the journey to Kyoto starting from Nihonbashi, thereafter stopping 52 resting stations. Nihonbashi was the Termine for all traffic created from Edo to rest of Japan. However, recent development in different parts of Tokyo such as Shibuya, Shinjuku, or next neighbor Ginza made Nihonbashi almost a forgotten district. To revitalize the area, the owner Mitsui Fudosan and Tokyu Group has decided to develop a financial center where Merrill Lynch as a major tenant together with the Financial School by Waseda University. Another interesting aspect is that an old building standing here was occupied partly by a company precedent to famous SONY, Totsuuko in early 50’s. Thereby, SONY’s commercial division has decided to open a store called, “Serendipity” as a tenant. Mitsui Fudosan with principal property around Nihonbashi has committed to make the area another major center in Tokyo.
