Edeka Südbayern has opened a new supermarket in Gaimersheim which was designed as regards prototype elements for a new generation of supermarkets. The concept for the E center was based on design guidelines developed by ATP Munich in close cooperation with the client. It is the first center to make use of the architectural language proposed by ATP in its winning submission to a 2012 study competition. This study competition was based, amongst other things, on the corporate architecture guidelines defined by ATP for Edeka Südbayern in 2006.
The innovative appearance – both internal and external – provides this new “market of the future” with a powerful USP.
The full-height glazing of the façade establishes a shop window atmosphere which optimizes the visibility of the products. The transparent atrium at the heart of the market optically connects the various elements of the new E center. These include the “Super-Sign” of the entrance which is typical to the brand; the plaza - a high quality space which permits easy orientation; the newly-designed market below an imposing timber roof construction which is made from sustainable materials; the café and the newly conceived delicatessen counters and front-cooking area. The new building was designed in line with the platinum standard of the (German Sustainable Building Council) and pre-registered for certification.
